I've been hearing quite a bit about this lately as the new sexiness to replace Flames of War for WW2 gaming. I checked out the the rulebooks and stuff over at herocomplex and nicely priced. www.warlordgames.com/us-store/bolt-action.html

Looks interesting. I'll try and find the rules to read through.
There's even an occult aspect!
Is "Flames of War" going away? Or is it just running out of steam?

They still have a large fan base but are starting to creep into Games Workshop territory with their business. The cost of mini's has steadily increased, a new edition incompatible with the old, and being a business based in another hemisphere (they're HQ is in new zealand) have all left some looking for something new. Personally I still think FOW is a great game and has a long life ahead of it. I really wish it would have taken off as I have a full british Motorized Infantry company and the start of a Panzer Grenadier company (which started life as a Hungarian motorized company till I realized, no one wants to play as the hungarians) The other big difference is scale of mini's and level of game. The mini's in FOW are 15mm, the Mini's in BA are 28mm. FOW is a company level game, BA is a platoon level game. The differnences in how you fight a company are very different from a platoon.
Their Vietnam game is released and they have mini's and books out now. It's company level as well. I've read very good reviews of FOW Vietnam. The best part of it , terrain for Vietnam is much easier to make by just grabbing a bag of stuff at an aquarium supply store for foliage, and the grass huts are a cinch to make. Much easier than a french village near normandy or the ruins of smolensk to make.
Anyways I'll probably buy the rules for both at some point as I seem to be collecting every esoteric wargame rulebook known to man in my basement (I have a napoleonic era solo wargame I just found lily messing with the other night hehe).
I really like WW2 gaming but you have to really decide thematically what time of the war and what theatre you wanna play in. It's not generic like WHFB or WM. You can't fight your 1940 Desert Rat British in 1944 Poland. Completely different vehicles and everything.
If anyone wants to check out FOW I can field two armies to do any euro theatre battle mid-late war. We can always proxy some if you wanted to be the russkies , americans or italianos (They even have FOW rules for playing as a british regiment from india or a Romanian Cavalry Guards....the books are very historcially accurate and well put together, well they're well put together till you get to the two pages about "Close assault phase" which is the most incomprehensible rule page i've ever read in my life.
Hope that answers some questions.

Ok ordered the rules to Bolt Action. We'll see what turns up. I don't have much 28mm Modern so I guess the first games will be British Eldar vs. German Orcs.
