Just wondering what everyone has in their head for "if the wife would just shutup and let me redo a room how I want it for gaming" how would you do it?
My Needs list. An 4X8 table that can be raised or lowered for either sitting or standing. Maybe even a 5 x 8 table so you could do little bins or drink holders. Also someplace to keep dice, markers and measuring tape.
Nice comfy swivel chairs that can raise or lower from sitting height to near bar stool height.
Good lighting with variable controls.
Plenty of bookshelf area for keeping all my games and supplements.
Intercom (Cuz this needs to be away from everyone else and have a door!)
Good ceiling fans.
Hobby table for all my projects.
Want but not need. Refrigerator Access to bathroom without needing to tromp thru the house. Table can be retracted to the ceiling for when not in use. TV lounge area (make it a multipurpose room) Excellent surround sound system for ambiance and soundtrack during RPGs. Window that can be opened for fresh air. Prefer good natural light from a south facing window. fantasy / sci fi Artwork and Movie print posters on wall. Tool chest or similar to keep mini's in. Terrain board chest.
Anyways just ideas. What else would people have in thier ideal Gamers Man Cave ??

Well, I had some of what is on your list. I had a 9x5 table, at bar stool height. It had shelves under it for terrain storage. Book shelves along one wall. The lighting was wired into a control panel where I sat to game master. I had painted the ceiling black and the lights were directional spots with focus lens. (We played a lot of Battle Tech in those days so we'd start with the lights out and I'd light each needed area as the fog of war would lift. When we used the lighting system that is.) I had a sound system (PA) hooked up. We used it for SFX. Also an old tape deck, (pre digital days). Rest room next to the game room. But I always had wanted to put in a back door to that room so friends wouldn't need to walk through the whole house. For DnD we used a different room that had an old stone fireplace. Large round oak table. As far as these days I'd like a studio instead of a game room. But the quick move of some of the stuff and presto instant gaming space. Current house is too small for a dedicated game room.
